Kansas City (KS) Captain Michael Howell is a 27-year law enforcement veteran. He graduated from Park University with his Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice (2008), Webster University with a Master’s degree in Business and Organizational Security Management (2010), and a second Masters in Management through Baker University (2013). He is currently a Patrol Commander, as well as an instructor in his department's Crisis Intervention Teams dealing with PTSD and Returning Veterans. His experience includes traffic fatality investigations, DUI enforcement, and patrol operations. He is assigned as one of three new Patrol Training Coordinators for new recruits in the field training portion of the police academy. He is a 2010 graduate of the US Army Command & General Staff Course. He is a retired Major from the U. S. Army National Guard, having served 28 years in both commands as an Infantry officer, as well as multiple positions at the Brigade and Division staff levels. He has been involved in lethal force encounters, both on and off duty. In 2017 he was involved in an Active Killer situation in Kansas where he was forced to engage the suspect as he sought to kill and terrorize the shoppers inside.
